welcome to magnificent intentions
Welcome to Magnificent Intentions DC* (or midc - pronounced my dc)! Charles Dickens called Washington D.C. the City of Magnificent Intentions to reflect the struggles early d.c.. faced in defining itself and building a world-class city.
This newsletter is designed to bridge that gap many d.c. residents feel between their experience living in d.c. and calling the city their home. So where does midc fit in? I want to build a place where you can quickly learn about the top going ons in d.c., local news (51st state say what?), and other things affecting our community.
So, where are we going? Call it a magnificent intention, but the hope is that we can get some live events back in our lives sooner rather than later. For now, think of the best of the virtual (who seriously wants to sit through another Zoom conference?), the best of the outdoors, and the new new - restaurant openings, socially distanced activities, etc!
Plus, I like to read. A lot. Mostly online newspapers and blogs, but also a lot of longform journalism. And I like to recommend stories to my friends. Content overload is a real thing, so think of this as a fast way to find some interesting, pre-vetted content. What I’m reading will cover my top picks - no geographic barriers here! I’m not looking to recommend obscure articles just for the sake of obscure, but I also promise to not pull in the top NY Times articles and call it a day.
