D.C. topped the nation last year in its share of remote workers, with 48% of employees working remotely in 2021 (a massive jump from 6-7% from 2017-19). Nationally, the number of people working from home tripled between 2019-2021, growing from about 6% to 18% of workers.
Update to the Casa Ruby debacle: a court-ordered assessment found the LGBTQ+ nonprofit should cease operations and that it owes $2M+ to creditors. Its founder, Ruby Corado, suddenly left the country earlier this year (likely taking Casa Ruby assets along with her)
Salamander Resorts, known for their upscale spa and hotel in Middleburg, VA, purchased the Mandarin Oriental hotel. The group plans to renovate and refresh the southwest DC spot.
