what’s on our minds?
Protesters took to NoMa following a Wednesday morning shooting of 27-year-old Antwan Gimore by an MPD officer. The police shooting of Gilmore as he was in a car near NY Ave NE and Florida Ave was captured by a bystander, leading to the protests in the NoMa area last night. The D.C. police released body camera footage yesterday.
We can all use some cute InstaDogs in our lives. Washingtonian found nine D.C.-based pups on the gram - I’m partial to Bailey, but they’ve all got personality.

what are we watching/reading?
Candyman in theaters. The latest Jordan Peele horror + social commentary film is out today. The remake of the creepy 1992 film jumps ahead to a couple who moves into the former spot of the Carbrini towers and one of the partners, Anthony, decides to use the Candyman story as inspiration for his art…to disastrous effect. Early reviews are strongly positive - 86% on Rotten Tomatoes.
Note: we’ll be off next week for a short summer break - see everyone after Labor Day!
