In some good weather news for the district, D.C. is less vulnerable to hurricane flooding than other East coast cities, for a variety of reasons, including the high number of parks and a hidden levee system in the National Mall. But - as climate change leads to rising sea levels, storms are likely to be more frequent and damaging.
D.C.’s planning its first elevated park - one that will be included as part of the 11th Street Bridge Park that will connect the Anacostia and Navy Yard neighborhoods. The bridge park was inspired by similar developments such as NYC’s High Line. With funding secured, construction is expected to begin next year.
Local shelter Humane Rescue Alliance hit full capacity for dogs and is desperately seeking adopters and fosters. The spot is taking in about 250 animals a week, but only adopting out about 115.
