Friday: The Capitals host a free scrimmage at Capital One Arena at 7 pm giving fans a chance to see prospects and win prizes | American Prophet premieres at Arena Stage, the world premiere of the musical based on abolitionist Frederick Douglass’ writings (through August 28) | Elvis’ Birthday Fight Club, where celebrity impersonators stage fights to determine who would win in a brawl. WaPo describes the event as surreal and comical (shows at 7 and 10 pm Fri and Sat)
Saturday: NoMa hosts Alethia Tanner Day to celebrate the namesake of NoMa’s new park, with music and performances (11 am-3 pm) | Fiesta Asia takes to Pennsylvania Avenue to celebrate Asian heritage with food, performances, and other vendors (11 am-7 pm) | Professional rugby league, the Premier Rugby Sevens travels to D.C., with women’s and men’s matches at Audi Field throughout the day. (3 pm, finals at 8 pm)
Sunday: Georgetown’s Outdoor Voices hosts a free outdoor yoga class in nearby Montrose Park (9:45 am)
All weekend: Theater festival Capital Fringe returns to D.C., with 31 shows across Georgetown over this weekend and next, including comedies, dramas, and musicals. DCist wrote up summaries of many of the shows.

Sunday is National Ice Cream Day and all of the usual suspects (Ice Cream Jubilee, Dolcezza) are offering specials to celebrate. Kalorama’s DC Writers’ Salon is also hosting an ice cream sidewalk social on Sunday from 2:30-3:30 pm.
City Ridge’s Wegman’s is officially open as of this past Wednesday, marking the first D.C. location for the cult favorite grocery chain.

Soccer star and former D.C. United player Wayne Rooney returns to the MLS team - this time as its coach. The team can use a bolt of energy - they’re currently last in the eastern conference and were rocked 7-0 by Philadelphia last week.
D.C. announced its first shelter serving LGBTQ+ adults, a community disproportionately unhoused in the district. Per D.C.’s data collection, about 18% of unsheltered adults in the city identify as LGBTQ+. The shelter, located in Ward 7, will open in August with 40 beds and wraparound services.
