For the first time in over 30 years, Congress will override a local D.C. government decision. House Republicans led a resolution to block changes to D.C.’s criminal sentencing laws and yesterday, President Biden announced that he will sign that resolution. Biden noted that “while he supports D.C. Statehood and home-rule,” he doesn’t support some of the aspects of the bill. DC officials immediately criticized Biden’s decision.
