let’s talk food and drinks
my weekly best bite: panang curry from Beau Thai
14th Street mainstay Estadio is closing after 13 years. The last meals will be served on February 18, giving patrons two weeks to have a last pan con tomate or patatas bravas.
Flora Flora, a Mexican/Peruvian restaurant, is open at The Wharf with a South Beach-style vibe, as is Easy Company, a new wine bar opened by the Takoda team. The spots joins two other additions this week - Bartaco and Hell’s Kitchen.
what’s on our minds?
The DC City Council may soon require insurance companies to cover fertility treatments, such as IVF. IVF can cost as much as $20k per cycle and is increasingly a hot benefit for employers (although still well under half cover fertility treatments). The bill, reintroduced by Councilmember Christina Henderson, is in committee now.
Cenaes, a DC nonprofit focused on Spanish literacy, teaches Latinos that didn’t learn how to read or write - a population that numbers around 50k in the D.C. region. The organization is expanding, with nine area classes a week and about 200 students.
